Our pace was good as we could comfortably outpace the factory Ginetta UK/Rollcentre entered G40 working our car less hard into the bargain but our enforced lack of testing with the larger and totaly different design of fuel tank was none existant. This is what bit us in the tail. The result was we could'nt use half as much fuel as we intend and the breathing system was frankly insufficient with the heat generated in the rear of this little car. The resulting pressurising problem caused the car to catch fire about 3 hours into the race after Ryan made contact (unrelated we believe) with another car. Ryan got out OK. Proving how brillaint our team is the rear end of the car was rebuilt, re wired and sent back out 2hrs 50 minutes (60 odd laps) later. The lagecy of this damage was to plague us for the rest of the race with wiring issues and a fuel pump failure all directly attributable to the fire.
In all cases we got the car running again and back out. Had it not been for the fire damage we would still have been in a very solid overall finishing position despite the other niggles. Best of all from our objective as a team every one of the problems encountered can be rectified and countered entirely before the car runs again. The bones of the car were as good at the end of the race as they were at the start so we absolutely believe in the Ginetta G40 Endurance concept, this is going to be a very good and cost effective Endurance race car.
Our drivers all did a superb job, Ryan Ratcliffe was very fast and professional driving at for over 2 hours at a time, Adam Balon adapted superbly well to a GT type car in only his second season of racing lapping within a couple of seconds of the cars outright pace, very impressive. Chris Bialan was as always a solid performer, posting reliable consistent lap times again within a couple of seconds of ultimate pace and Simon Mason performed his job of bench marking the car keeping it out of trouble and backing up the work of the other drivers.
A special thankyou must go to Stuart and Jenny Faulds of Caterham race team Fauldsport. Without their help none of this would have been possible.
